Labor Market StudyThe Riverside County Economic Development Agency, in collaboration with the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership, conducted a labor market survey of targeted businesses in the Coachella Valley as a foundation element for CVEP's Career Pathways Initiative. The survey was conducted April through July 2005. Over 1,200 businesses comprise the Multimedia, Advanced Technologies and Healthcare industry clusters in the Coachella Valley. These companies were targeted for potential inclusion in the labor survey. A total of 730 businesses were contacted with 93 individual businesses participating. The 93 businesses responding employ over 50% of all employees working in the three targeted clusters. Key FindingsSome 77% of the total survey participants reported that only 20% of their hiring needs for hard-to-fill positions are being filled by local candidates. Common Deficiencies:The three most common deficiencies reported among recently hired employees:
